Why We Like It
Because chef Michael Rafidi isn’t afraid to experiment with traditional recipes and techniques for wood-fired Levantine cooking that you’ve likely never quite experienced before. And don’t leave without ordering the brown butter knafeh, a childhood favorite of Rafidi’s that changes with the seasons.
Need to Know
Albi offers both a la carte dining and our Sofra experience. Sofra, translates roughly as “a table set for you” in Arabic, is an experience that highlights the richness of both Palestinian cuisine and seasonal, local ingredients. Most dishes are served family style, in a spontaneous, conversation-driven, five-course exploration of Chef Rafidi's inspirations. For parties of six or more guests, we offer our Sofra experience exclusively, in lieu of a la carte.
Reservations are required for the dining room, and walk-in guests are welcome at the bar.
We require prior notice of any allergies or dietary restrictions. Due to the nature of our cuisine, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate allergies to allium, sesame, and nightshade (including peppers and tomato).
About Albi
In an elegantly designed dining room, offering an array of textures and colors, Albi - Arabic for ‘my heart’ - is the acclaimed debut restaurant from chef/owner Michael Rafidi. Since February 2020, Albi has received continued local and national attention, opening with mentions on Best New Restaurant lists by Eater, Robb Report, and Esquire, Eater DC Restaurant of the Year in 2021, and earning a placement on the inaugural list of North America's 50 Best Restaurants, and one Michelin star each year since 2022. In 2024, Chef Michael Rafidi was named Outstanding Chef by the James Beard Foundation.
In 2026, Albi was elevated to #6 on the list of North America's 50 Best Restaurants, taking the title of Best Restaurant North East US. In addition, in June of 2026 Albi became the first restaurant outside of New York City to earn a coveted four-star review from the New York Times.
