Why We Like It

Since 1959, this Santa Monica staple has been known for peanut shells on the floor, strong drinks, sand dabs, and stories in the walls. Frank Sinatra once drank here, and an elephant once made an entrance; today it still oozes charm, grit, and that timeless, sometimes rowdy beachside magic. The patio in back is slightly calmer and an excellent option for breezy nights.

Need to Know

We have first come first serve parking on the South side of our building. All reservations are for Chez Jay only. We do not take reservations in THE BACKYARD.

Chez Jay on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California has been serving locals, celebrities, and visitors since 1959. A historical landmark, we have been known as a celebrity hang out, “dive bar” or “classy joint” since we opened.
