Why We Like It

Housed in the former home of Libertine, this seafood-focused tavern comes from the same team. Owner Cody Pruitt has reimagined the space to include dishes like shrimp cocktail, crab claws, and razor clams casino. Whatever you do, don’t sleep on the wine list, either.

Need to Know

All reservations are intended for guests joining us for a full meal. If you're planning to stop by for drinks, a snack or two, or dessert, we warmly welcome you as a walk-in. While all tables are reserved for dining guests, walk-in guests are always welcome at our bar, where the full menu is available, and we will gladly accommodate you for dinner should a table become available.

All no-shows and cancellations made within 12 hours of a reservation will incur a charge of $50 per person, without exception. All reservations, modifications, and cancellations must be made through Resy, as we are unable to accept reservation changes via email, direct message, or telephone.

We maintain a 15-minute grace period for all reservations. Guests arriving after this period may be considered a no-show, and late arrivals within the grace period may require a slightly abbreviated dining experience to ensure the table remains available for subsequent reservations.

About Capitaine

A seafood tavern, of sorts, Capitaine is the newest restaurant and bar from the team behind Libertine and Chateau Royale, occupying the former Libertine space in the West Village. Inspired by the great seafood restaurants, oyster bars, and wine and cocktail bars of New York, Paris, and London, Capitaine celebrates all things maritime and beyond through a lens that is at once casual, convivial, and quietly elegant.

Whether you're stopping in for a martini, a platter of oysters, a bottle of wine and a burger, or a proper feast with friends, Capitaine fits whatever mood or occasion might bring you through its doors. Equal parts neighborhood clubhouse and seafood destination, Capitaine is the drinking and dining destination the West Village has long deserved.
