Why We Like It

What began as a rebellious backyard pop-up has evolved into one of L.A.’s most inventive taquerias. Husband-and-wife chefs Alex and Elvia Garcia channel thrash-metal energy into genre-bending Mexican cooking — think octopus al pastor, cheeseburger tacos, and a wildly creative dinner menu that pulls from global flavors. The small, black-walled space feels punk and DIY, but the cooking is serious, imaginative, and vegan-friendly too.

Evil Cooks is a non-traditional Mexican restaurant based in Los Angeles, built on rebellion, creativity, and a deep respect for flavor. Instead of following strict culinary rules, Evil Cooks embraces what its founders call Los Angeles cuisine—a style shaped by the city’s diverse cultures, neighborhoods, and ingredients.

Created by Alex Garcia, “The Cook,” and Elvia Garcia, “La Bruja,” Evil Cooks is the result of years working in the hospitality industry and learning the craft from the ground up. Their cooking blends Mexican traditions with influences from the surrounding communities of Los Angeles, creating dishes that feel both familiar and unexpected.
