Why We Like It
Because everything here is impeccably thought out, from chef Erling Wu-Bower’s attentive menus to the rooftop garden and apiary, the playlist, and retail pop-ups in the first-floor space. Wu-Bower plucks flavors and inspiration from everywhere, blending them in unique ways, like grilled eggplant and tomato confit with warm flatbread, and claypot rice with pork belly.
Need to Know
Dining room reservations are released three weeks in advance at 7am CST. Patio reservations are released daily at 10 AM CST (weather permitting) and walk-ins are always welcome.
Parties of 5 or more require a $40 per person deposit to book a reservation. The deposit will be applied toward the final bill.
Ample free street parking is available on both Carroll Ave and Justine St. Please note that you will be towed if you park in the private lot at 1504 W Carroll Ave.

Maxwells Trading is a restaurant in Chicago’s Kinzie Industrial Corridor led by James Beard Award “Best Chef: Great Lakes” (2025) finalists Erling Wu-Bower and Chris Jung. Located beneath a rooftop farm, the restaurant blends Asian influences with deeply American traditions, reflecting the chefs’ personal backgrounds and the seasonal bounty harvested from above. Warm light, analog music and rotating floral installations make it a room worth lingering in.
