Why We Like It

Cherished by locals and visitors alike, Leon’s Oyster Shop boasts one of the best fried chickens and oyster selections in town, within a reconverted auto body shop space that’s as hip as it is homey.

Need to Know

Leon's operates mostly on walk-ins with limited reservations for parties of 6 or more. We do not reserve tables for parties less than 6, and have a handful of tables available for large party walk-ins. Our tables and bar seats are on a first come, first serve basis.

We offer complimentary parking in marked spaces at 19 Race St., across from the Greek Orthodox Church. We discourage parking in the neighborhood behind our restaurant.

While we cannot accommodate any luggage in the dining room or lobby, we are happy to check your luggage for $9/bag at the host stand. Charleston also offers various bag-checking services like Charleston Bag Valet and Bounce if you prefer to leave them off-site while you dine and explore.

About Leon’s Oyster Shop

Leon’s Fine Poultry & Oyster Shop is a comfortable Southern joint serving fried chicken, oysters, lots of salads, cheap beer, soft serve, rosé on tap, tons of grower Champagne, and good cocktails. The restaurant is housed in an old body shop that belonged to Leon Ravenel—a businessman that served Charleston residents for many years. The space preserves much of that industrial history, complete with functioning garage door, concrete floors, and some remaining memorabilia from Leon himself. Leon’s has been recognized as a leader in Charleston’s food scene by Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, Conde Nast Traveler, New York Times, James Beard Foundation, Travel & Leisure, Eater, and more.
