Why We Like It

The “Smoot” — a cheeky measurement standard created by M.I.T. students in 1958 by measuring how many lengths of classmate Oliver Smoot spanned the Harvard Bridge (length = 364.4 Smoots) — is also the namesake of this all-day restaurant, café and bar from the team behind Naco Taco. Come for smoked bluefish bagels and cortados in the morning, beef brisket melts in the afternoon and chicken Milanese and an espresso martini by night.

Need to Know

We are open for walk-in self seating and counter service for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week starting at 8AM. We accept reservations for dinner service starting at 4PM Tue - Sat on the main floor and loft area. We reserve more than half of our seats and bar for walk-ins, so if you can't find what you're looking for, send us an email with what you're looking for or just come on by! If you are a party of 5 or more or require accessible seating please send us an email to info@smootstandard.com. About The Smoot Standard

The Smoot Standard is an all-day restaurant and cafe named after Oliver Smoot, the MIT ‘62 student whose body was famously used to measure the length of the Harvard bridge in 1958. By day, we serve freshly brewed coffee, pastries, and a variety of breakfast and lunch options in a casual, walk-up setting. At night, the space adds a vibrant dinner and bar scene with seasonal dishes, craft cocktails, wine, and beer.
