The Best Restaurant Private Dining Rooms in New York
Updated: Nov. 4, 2025
New York City’s endless supply of standout restaurants is enough to keep a dedicated eater occupied every night of the week. Though when it comes to sharing the experience with friends, limited capacity and busy reservation lines can make a group reservation as challenging as finding a cab on a rainy night in Manhattan.
Luckily, many of the city’s best restaurants offer private dining experiences, all bookable in advance, where friends and loved ones can come together while also diving into some of the most delicious menus the city has to offer. From a laid-back tavern serving American cuisine to sizzling Korean barbecue, these 18 private dining rooms can accommodate your next private Big Apple soirée in style.
A friendly heads-up: most spots on this list are available for full and/or partial buyouts; and do note that restaurants’ group policies vary — some opt for a set menu, others don’t; some are bookable via Resy, while others encourage you to reach out directly.
We’ve also reached out to Amber Mayfield, the founder and CEO of New York-based To Be Hosted, a full-service events agency that specializes in dinners and food-focused gatherings to ask her for her best tips for planning holiday celebrations at restaurants. You can find her tips below.

A Pro’s Tips & Tricks for Picking a Restaurant Private Dining Room

Amber Mayfield is no stranger to booking restaurant private dining rooms for her many clients throughout New York. As the founder and CEO of event agency To Be Hosted, it’s her job to find the best spaces to accommodate her clients’ gatherings. We asked her to share her best advice for choosing the right restaurant private dining room for your needs; here’s her checklist of things to ask and look for when booking a private dining room:
- What’s the capacity of the private dining room?
- What kind of table arrangements can you have?
- What’s included in the package? What’s the cost per person?
- Are there corkage fees for bringing in your own wine or bottles?
- How flexible are you with any substitutions to the menu or the package?

- Does the private dining room have its own dedicated restroom? Or bar? Or sound system?
- Can you play your own playlist? Or bring your own musicians?
- Ask if you can view the private dining room in person before you book. “There are a lot of great photos of private dining rooms, but they’re nothing like experiencing it in person,” she says. “I recommend collecting all the information online first and then scheduling a site visit, and also booking a reservation to try the food, too.”
- If you’re booking for the holidays, try to book as early as possible. “Restaurants will be very busy so starting to plan early is best,” Mayfield says. “Make sure that if the restaurant has deadlines on head count and menu selections that you adhere to them.”

For Smaller Gatherings of Up to 20 Guests
NARO
Rockefeller Center
Put your event into the practiced hands of the storied duo behind Atomix and Atoboy. Make Naro’s minimal private dining room your own with their many food and drink options, including optional additional passed canapes and sit-down bites as well as a variety of beverage packages. The space can seat up to 24 diners. Inquire here.
The Golden Swan
West Village
Make yourself even more at home inside The Golden Swan’s historic townhouse space with their completely private dining room, aptly named The Swan Room. It can fit up to 12 seated guests for dinner where, hopefully, you can order their roasted brussels sprouts salad, dover sole, and burger with duck fat fries that are so beloved in the dining room.
Junoon
Flatiron District
The New York City restaurant that helped put Indian fine dining in the spotlight years ago when it earned a Michelin star for eight years straight (2010 to 2018) also has an intimate 20-seat private dining room with a front-row seat to their impressive wine cellar. P.S. Junoon’s sister restaurant, Jazba, located in the East Village, also has a vibrant, decidedly more colorful private dining room that seats up to 35.
Cosme
Flatiron
When superstar Mexican chef Enrique Olvera opened Cosme in the Flatiron District back in 2014, it quickly became one of the city’s most sought-after dining experiences centered on contemporary Mexican cooking. Cosme’s signature dishes include an impossibly tender duck carnitas for two, served with freshly made tortillas, which has a reputation all on its own. You can enjoy it all in the sleek, black-walled private dining room, which serves a set family-style menu on a long wooden table that can host up to 14 seated guests. Just don’t forget to taste a few selections from the list of standout tequila and mezcals. Learn more here.
Miss Korea BBQ
Midtown
In-the-know diners in New York City in search of a memorable dinner in Koreatown keep Miss Korea at the top of their lists. Within the multi-floor space, guests choose their proteins and cook them on table grills — marinated kalbi beef, spicy pork belly, vegetables, and more. The restaurant also does a standout hotpot and other classics like japchae noodles and bibimbap served while still cooking in a hot stone bowl. Miss Korea has several private dining rooms with their own table grills finished in attractive blond wood tones; they’re bookable for parties of up to 16. You can also book entire floors of the space for up to 78 people, if your party grows substantially.
For Slightly Larger Parties of Up to 40 Guests
53
Midtown
You’ve got choices when it comes to private dining at 53. Their dinner menu features a variety of Asian dishes, with lots of seafood options like their king prawns, eel club, and lobster rice in lotus leaf. Go for a semi-private experience in their Dome space, which features an arched ceiling and room for 32 seated guests or a standing reception for 50. Or go for the fully private dining room for a group of up to 22, which also happens to feature a stunning light installation by artist Jorge Pardo. You’ll also have control over the sound in that space, so plan accordingly. For more information, head here.
Chinese Tuxedo
Chinatown
Chinese Tuxedo, located on Doyers Street in Chinatown, is known for its exquisite Chinese banquet food and beautiful space, and it’s also got plenty of room for hosting private gatherings, too. Hidden below the main room is Opera House, formerly known as Peachy’s. The bar pays tribute to NYC’s first Chinese theater, and has a versatile private dining space. It can hold up to 32 guests for a sit-down meal or for 25 standing room.
Manuela NYC
SoHo
Private dining at Manuela is just as artsy, chic, and cool as the rest of the space, which is to say very. The owners of Manuela are also behind the famed art gallery Hauser & Wirth, after all. Their stunning private dining room features a custom-built mosaic table, bespoke plush red rug, and a mural done by contemporary artist Pat Steir. It also has a private entrance, customized menus, and room for up to 28 seated guests. For more information and to book, visit their website.
Margot
Fort Greene
If you’re looking for a celebrity-endorsed private dining room — Charli XCX and Dua Lipa have hosted shindigs here — look no further than The Annex at Margot in Fort Greene. Located above the restaurant’s main dining room, it’s a warm, intimate space where you can gather up to 35 standing guests or 24 seated, with options for passed canapés, cocktail receptions, or family-style feasts of seasonally inspired dishes.
Rule of Thirds
Greenpoint
If you’re looking for a modern look and feel for your gathering, along with some of Brooklyn’s best Japanese cuisine, you’ll want to consider Rule of Thirds in Greenpoint. The restaurant has a total of three indoor private dining rooms, all of which range in being able to host anywhere from 10 to 30 diners. The very zen Outdoor Pavilion, with four private bungalows, is ideal for outdoor gatherings: The smallest bungalow seats eight, while the largest can seat up to 20. For private gatherings, the restaurant offers a family-style prix-fixe menu.
Peasant
Nolita
After New York City chef Frank DeCarlo opened Peasant in 1999, it quickly became a favorite of chef and restaurateur Marc Forgione. When DeCarlo retired in 2020, Forgione took over the restaurant with DeCarlo’s blessing, where he now oversees a menu of seasonal Italian dishes, including appetizers like hot chili octopus, mafaldine with arrabiata and meatballs, and wood-fired items like grilled savoy cabbage with bagna cauda. Pro tip: Consider ordering the Animal House Menu ($145 per person for a minimum of eight guests), which includes whole chicken, duck rabbit, and goat shank alongside several of their other signature dishes. Peasant’s cozy private dining room, with its rustic wooden tables and stone floors, is located in the wine cellar below the restaurant, and seats 25 guests. Contact the restaurant here for more information.
Vinegar Hill House
Vinegar Hill
A beloved restaurant in DUMBO since 2008, Vinegar Hill House is the gold standard of neighborhood restaurants. In a rustic, wood-floored dining room, diners feast on seasonally-inspired dishes that might start out with charred octopus or chicken liver mousse, move onto a pecorino-topped lamb ragu or cast iron chicken, and end with a Guinness chocolate cake. The restaurant has a private dining space in a restored old carriage house, complete with its own fireplace for colder nights; it’s bookable for parties ranging from nine to 32 guests. Or go for the fireside private room with yet another genuine working fireplace, with room for up to 16 guests. Contact the restaurant here for more information.
For Grand Fêtes of 40 or More Guests
Ammazzacaffè
East Williamsburg
When the weather’s nice, you’d be hard pressed to find a nicer spot for your private event other than the back patio (accommodates up to 60 guests seated or 90 guests standing) at this low-key Williamsburg restaurant where the housemade pastas are a standout. Even so, we aren’t sure a patio fully qualifies as a private dining room, so we’re rounding it out with mention of their back room (accommodates 25 to 30 guests seated or standing), which is also brick lined and intimate. Or you can also rent out the entire restaurant for a buyout for more than 100 or so guests that, thanks to the relatively small size of the space, still feels cozy, intimate, and personal.
BLACKBARN
Flatiron
The options are about as close to unlimited as you can get at John Doherty’s Blackbarn, located right by Madison Square Park. Choose from private dining areas like a wood-paneled loft, a chef’s table right in the kitchen, or the cellar on the bottom floor, which seat 80, 20, and 32 diners, respectively. In addition to the private room of your choosing, the restaurant also offers a variety of experiences for groups, too, like a soufflé making experience, a world leader menu composed of dishes Doherty served to a variety of politicians and leaders over his long tenure as the executive chef of New York’s Waldorf-Astoria hotel, and a whiskey tasting. Find more information here.
Winona's
Bed-stuy
Consider booking the back room at Winona’s, a Bed-Stuy favorite with an award-winning wine list, for your next large party. It’s beautifully decorated, with minimal clutter and a focus on the gorgeous overhead skylight. The back room accommodates up to 58 seated guests or 74 people for a standing cocktail reception. Hopefully, you can include their scotch eggs, smoked trout dip, and grilled chicken with napa slaw on whatever menu you and the team devise for your gathering. Submit an inquiry by emailing backroom@winonasbk.com.
Delmonico's
Financial District
New York’s oldest restaurant has multiple private event spaces from which to choose, but the newly revamped Wonder Room is one to keep in mind for gatherings of up to 125 guests. Formerly known as the Dickens Alcove (and so named for the famous author, Charles Dickens), the room pays homage to the restaurant’s many iconic guests, ranging from Kevin Bacon and Adam Sandler to Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Find more information here.
Pebble Bar
Midtown
This multi-level bar and lounge just off of Rockefeller Center has a top-floor space that’s got a “secret” entrance through Rock Center. Johnny’s, as it’s called, can host up to 50 guests and has a true lounge-like feel. While Pebble Bar is most known for its drinks (you can’t go wrong with whatever you order, but we’re partial to the Green River), the food is just as exceptional; think lots of shareable bites, from lobster rolls and oysters dressed in yuzu kosho to chips and dip and steak tartare sandwiches topped with caviar.
Dirty French New York
Lower East Side
Located in the 1980’s-inspired Ludlow Hotel, Dirty French was masterminded by the team behind Major Food Group (Carbone, Sadelle’s) and channels a neighborhood French bistro — think gilded mirrors and wine-red booths, and dishes like lamb carpaccio, mushroom mille-feuille, and filet au poivre. The private dining room, which guests access through a private entrance on the second floor of the hotel, serves the same menu by chef de cuisine Jordan Terry. The venue seats 50 guests in 900 square feet of light-filled space, but smaller parties will also feel right at home within the rustic-chic interiors, with its wooden floors, copper ceilings, and its own built-in bar with private coat check.
