While we’ve just celebrated the start of 2024, in just a few weeks — on Saturday, Feb. 10 to be exact — we’ll be commemorating the start of the Lunar New Year, specifically the **Year of the Dragon**.

Lunar New Year is one of the Asian community’s most important holidays, a two-week-long celebration known as the Spring Festival. With auspicious foods and [superstitions](https://chinesenewyear.net/) galore, it’s a wonderful time to be around a table with loved ones.

So, consider the two-week span in February as your designated time to eat your way through Chinatown’s numerous family-owned restaurants, as well as many other incredible spots throughout the city. Lunar New Year is celebrated in Vietnam, Korea, Malaysia, and beyond, too, after all.

Here are some restaurants doing some exciting Lunar New Year happenings this year, as well as classic standbys always worth paying a visit.

And for more inspiration on where to dine in Chinatown all year-round, we’ve got you covered, too: From [Flushing in Queens](https://blog.resy.com/2020/08/the-resy-guide-to-flushing-chinatown-by-those-who-love-it-best/) and [Sunset Park in Brooklyn](https://blog.resy.com/2020/11/the-ultimate-guide-to-brooklyns-chinatown-according-to-stephanie-shih/) to [Manhattan Chinatown](https://blog.resy.com/2022/09/where-to-eat-manhattan-chinatown-new-york/). You likely haven’t had Korean American food quite like this before: At C as in Charlie, everything on the menu here combines Korean and Southern culinary traditions in fun, creative ways.

And for Lunar New Year, they’re adding a few special menu items from Feb. 8 to 10. In lieu of their usual crab drop soup, you’ll find traditional Korean tteokguk, or new year’s soup. “In Korean culture, consuming a bowl of this soup symbolizes aging one more year,” explains director of operations David JoonWoo Yun. “Younger kids sometimes believe they will age two years by having two bowls, so Steve \[JaeWoo Choi, finance director\] used to eat an extra bowl of the soup every year to try to catch up in age to me and Eric \[JaeHo Choi, chef\].”

For dessert, they’re serving up a peach cobbler-inspired rice cake dessert with sweet tea filling on the inside (pictured above), in collaboration with [Rice Blossoms](https://www.instagram.com/riceblossoms_ny/). Each dessert comes with a small envelope filled with $1 inside and each night there will also be a special $100 gift inside one of the envelopes for one lucky diner.
